40 Hour Driver Training Instructor (DTI) Course FEE: $1,383.00 LOCATION: Alameda County Sheriff's Office - Regional Training Center, 6289 Madigan Road, Dublin CA 94568 [MAP] DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to meet the POST requirements for Driver Training Instructor (D.T.I.). This course of instruction allows the student to teach all facets of vehicle operations relating to vehicle placement, skidpan, emergency steering and braking, hazard avoidance, emergency response driving (Code-3), and Pursuits to law enforcement, military, fire, ambulance, and other related groups and organizations. Included in the training are the lawful requirements of operating an emergency vehicle under Code 3 conditions and engaging into pursuits with full knowledge of the LD19 POST manual and general classroom instructor skills. The students will demonstrate a working knowledge of all the above skills by successfully driving such courses along with teaching an actual class. INSTRUCTORS: All instructors are POST certified driving instructors. PREREQUISITE: Must be either an active or retired peace officer, active or retired military personnel, unless prior arrangements are made with the EVOC Coordinator. Must be in excellent physical condition and free of any prior injuries that may be aggravated by intensive vehicle weight transfer, braking, turning or skidding. All students who are not members of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office must sign a liability waiver. Students are required to attend the 24 hour Driver Awareness Instructor Course prior to attending the 40 hr Driver Training Instructor Course. PRESENTATION HOURS: This is a 40-hour course that will run from 0800 to 1700 each day. POST CERTIFIED: POST Cert #1010-21675, POST Plan IV REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Students are required to have a valid drivers license. Students should wear suitable clothing, such as long pants (no shorts or skirts), a comfortable shirt and sturdy shoes. Athletic shoes are acceptable. No sandals, highs heels, or dress shoes allowed. A red Polo shirt (for instruction day) No gun belts or handguns are allowed on the course. Medication for motion sickness is recommended, if susceptible.
