Defensive Tactics Instructor Course FEE: $1309.00 LOCATION: Alameda County Sheriff's Office-Firearms Training Unit, 5301 Madigan Road, Dublin CA 94568 [MAP] DESCRIPTION: Students will develop knowledge in practices and philosophy of use of force, basic principles and concepts of Arrest & Control and legal issues. Students will develop skills in course development, class planning, instructional techniques, and instructor liability for a defensive tactics program. Students will develop a basic lesson plan and teach assigned blocks of instruction in defensive tactics to other class participants. Students will demonstrate proficiency in the physical techniques of defensive tactics. Completion of this course satisfies CCR 1070(b) for Arrest & Control Instructor as well as Baton Instructor. This course also satisfies the Arrest and Control perishable skills mandate. This course provides updated content regarding PC835a. INSTRUCTOR: Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Defensive Tactics Training Unit Staff PREREQUISITE: This course is highly challenging. This course is not a basic Defenssive Tactics course and is intended for agency instructors. Students are expected to be proficient with defensive tactics principles and their agency use of force policy. Students must be full time peace officers or reserve peace officer. Students must be in excellent physical condition and free of any prior injuries that may be aggravated by intense physical training. All students must also sign a liability waiver. PRESENTATION HOURS: This is an 80-hour course. The course hours are 0800-1700, each day. CERTIFICATION: POST Plan II. POST Cert# 1010-21635. Students must supply their own gun belt, handcuffs, and impact weapons, mouth guards and groin protection. Students are welcome to bring their own protective equipment including head, shoulder, knee and shin guards. Loaner protective equipment (other than mouth guard and groin protection) is available for use during this course. Students are asked to bring copies of their agency use of force policy and documents for a defensive tactics course they will be instructing, including the safety policy. RESERVATIONS: This course is limited to 20 students and reservations will be made on a first come, first served basis. Use the "Register for Class" link to submit reservations on-line.
