DESCRIPTION: This 32-hour course is designed to provide advanced rifle and tactical skills for the Sniper/Observer to function in support of high-risk law enforcement operations. Course content includes rules of engagement, civil liability, team missions, organization, enhanced marksmanship skills, unknown distance and angular target engagement, moving targets, low light engagement, advanced field craft, land navigation, ballistics, intelligence gathering, reporting procedures, and tactical command post operations.
INSTRUCTORS: Deputy Jeff Reed, Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Former Sniper Team Coordinator for the Sheriff's Office Special Response Unit. Deputy Reed is a certified NRA Law Enforcement Long Range Rifle Instructor and a graduate of the U.S.M.C. Law Enforcement Scout Sniper Instructor School. Deputy Reed is also a graduate of the U.S.M.C High Angle Shooting Course. Deputy Reed has been a Firearms Instructor for over twenty years.
PREREQUISITES: This course has both physical and mental components that will be highly challenging. Students must be full-time peace officers that have been selected by their respective agency to attend this course and are currently assigned as a counter-sniper/observer and been in this postion for one year. All students must have attended a certified basic sniper/observer course prior to attending this course, no exceptions. All students who are not members of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office must sign a liability waiver.
PRESENTATION HOURS: This is a 32 hour course starting 0800 on the first day. There will be one night session during this course.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: All participants must have the following weapons and equipment: One departmental issued/authorized scoped sniper rifle with suitable sniper sling, Data Book for that rifle, 400 rounds of match grade service ammunition, range finder, flashlight-white/red light capability, weapons cleaning equipment, eye protection, ear protection, knee/elbow pads, ground pad/shooting mat, sunscreen, day/utility backpack, canteen and or hydration system, note taking materials, spotting scope or quality binoculars, protractor, hand held calculator, Silva Ranger type compass, weapon carrying case and/or sniper drag bag, camouflage clothing/tactical uniform, hat, camouflage face paint, body armor/tactical load bearing vest, communication equipment, and other specialized sniper team equipment issued by student's agency.
RESERVATIONS: This course is limited to 16 students with 4 alternate standbys. Reservations will be made on a first come, first serve basis. Individual agencies may only send two students per course. CONFIRMATION EMAILS: A confirmation email will be sent out a month prior to the course. If no response is received two weeks before the start of clourse, you will be dropped from the course.
CANCELLING REGISTRATION: To cancel a registration for a course, please notify the Regional Training Center via e-mail or phone. E-mail cancellations can be directed to rtcinfo@sheriffacademy.com and phone cancellations to (925) 551-6970. In all cases, course cancellations less than 5 business days' prior to class start date, may be subject to a course cancellation fee equal to 50% of the course tuition. Students who fail to attend the course without cancelling prior to the start of the course (No Show) will be charged the full course tuition.
